More Than A Pretty Face

The Boise Art Museum selected 30 artists in the Treasure Valley to participate in the second year of their newest fundraiser.

Museum patrons and collectors will attend salons throughout the fall and contract with these artists for commissions or to purchase artworks from their inventories. Half the sales price will go to the museum and half to the artist. It's a good way to involve artists in fundraising, since most non-profits want artists to donate their work with no return.

On Thursday, September 30th, all 30 artists will be at the museum from 5:30-7:30 showing their work. This is open to the public free of charge and all works will be available for purchase there, with half the proceeds going to the museum.

Boise Art Museum - Idaho Triennial

The Idaho Triennial is up at the Boise Art Museum and I'm happy to announce that one of my paintings was juried into the show. The exhibit will be up into December, so there's lots of time to check out the best work done in Idaho during the last three years.

I have five paintings hanging in Jenny's Lunch Line cafe downtown for the next few weeks. It's a great little cafe next to the old Poulet Rouge just off Main and 6th. They have wonderful lunch food and now they have great art too! Make it your next meeting "for lunch" and pick up a couple of paintings while you're there.

"Slopes At Dusk"

This painting is at the Attic Gallery in Portland OR. It is an image suggesting the complexity of the foothills of southern Idaho and the intense impact of light falling on their contours.

"Brushed"

This painting of a small section of the Boise Foothills might not even register as a landscape by a flatlander from the Midwest or a New Englander accustomed to tree covered hills. It could be seen as an abstract painting of weird shapes, but it is actually a fairly reliable depiction of weird shapes found just north of Boise.

20 x 30 $1,500 at Rowe/Lisk Gallery in downtown Boise.

Lizard Butte

Lizard Butte near Marsing, Idaho dominates the surrounding landscape and is a marker for the wine region of Idaho near the Snake River. I have always been drawn to its massive shape and its forward leaning lines.

This alkyd oil painting is 42 x 60 and is priced at $6,300. It can be seen at Rowe/Lisk Gallery in Boise, ID, at 850 Main St., 208-342-3773.

Yummy Evening

To the north of Boise is a valley my wife and I call "Yummy Valley". That's because every time we go there, our reaction is: this is such a yummy place! Sensuously endowed with graceful curves that light transforms into massive, yet gentle, volumes. The valley is home to Horseshoe Bend, ID, just 30 minutes away from Boise.

This painting is 25 x 55 and priced at $3,440. It presently can be seen at Rowe/Lisk Gallery in Boise ID, 850 Main St., 208-342-3773

Just As It Ever Was

The foothills of Boise have provided me with an unlimited source of compositions. These rolling hills weave an infinite maze of shapes and textures. Carved slowly over thousands of years by the elements, they sit above the city as a transition to Idaho's more famous mountain ranges. For me, they possess a magnetic and hypnotic appeal, continually pulling me into their marvelous intricacies.

This painting is 23 x 60 and is priced at $3,450 and is presently at RoweLisk Gallery in Boise, Idaho, 850 Main St. 208-342-3773.
